If your Bavarian Automotive retrofit kit powers on but nothing appears on the BMW iDrive screen, follow these steps before contacting support.
1. Power Check
- Confirm the MMI box LED is lit (red/blue).
- If no light → check the power cable and ensure ignition is fully ON (not just accessory mode).
2. Check Display (LVDS) Cables + Toggle Switches
The most common cause of a black screen is the LVDS/display cable. Each BMW system has slight differences:
CCC Kit
- Ensure the LCD_IN cable from the original car screen is fully inserted into the MMI box (tight click).
- Ensure the LCD_OUT cable is securely connected back to the BMW screen.
- Loose or reversed LVDS cables = black screen.
- If unsure, swap cable orientation (CCC connectors are easy to reverse by mistake).
Toggle Switches
- Check DIP switch settings:
- 1,2,3,6,7 → OFF
- 4 → depends on reverse guidelines preference
- 5 → ON for CCC iDrive controller
- 8 → ON if using original/no camera
- Incorrect DIP switch config = no video.
CIC Kit
1. Power Check
- Confirm the MMI box LED is lit (red/blue).
- If no light → check the power cable and ensure ignition is fully ON (not just accessory mode).
2. Check Display Cables + Toggle Switches
When installing the CIC retrofit kit, you do not need to remove the iDrive screen. Instead, simply disconnect the pink LVDS/display cable from the back of the head unit (radio) and connect it to the supplied wiring harness.
This kit supports three different configurations, depending on the vehicle model and year. Before changing any configuration (toggle/DIP switches), always disconnect the CAN power cable for at least 10 seconds. This ensures all residual voltage is discharged and prevents incorrect settings or faults.
Your car may require different wiring and DIP switch settings. Wrong settings = no video output.
- Method 1 (E9x 3 Series, all MINI)
- CAN: B# → H#
- DIP:
00110000(8.8/10") or00010000(6.5")
- Method 2 (E60/F10, X6, X7, E70)
- CAN: A# → C#, D# → B#
- DIP:
00110000(8.8/10") or00010000(6.5")
- Method 3 (some F10 models)
- CAN: B# → D#, L# → C#
- DIP:
11100000
⚠️ Always disconnect the CAN power cable for 10 seconds before changing DIP switches.
4. Input Source Check
- Hold MENU for 3 seconds to switch between OEM CIC and CarPlay/Android Auto.
- If screen stays on OEM only → DIP/LVDS config wrong.
- If screen is blank even for OEM → LVDS cable not seated or connected backwards.
5. Reset & Factory Screen Test
- Turn ignition off, lock car for 5 minutes, restart.
- If still blank → hold MMI reset button for 10 seconds.
6. Next Step
If the display still does not work:
- Send your order number, vehicle details (make, model, year), and photo/video of LVDS + DIP setup to us.
NBT / EVO
. Power Check
- Confirm the MMI box LED (red/blue) is lit.
- If no light → check the main harness is fully seated, fibre optics transferred (if present), and ignition is ON.
2. LVDS Cable Connections
- Remove the OEM LVDS cable from the head unit.
- Connect it to the labelled LVDS-OUT cable into the MMI box.
- Connect the supplied LVDS IN cable to the OEM LVDS plug, then into the LVDS IN port on the MMI box.
- Run the supplied LVDS cable from LVDS OUT on the MMI box to the back of the BMW screen.
- ⚠️ If cables are reversed or not fully clicked in, screen will stay black.
3. DIP Switch Settings
Always disconnect the CAN power cable for 10 seconds before adjusting switches.
- Settings:
- 6.5" screen →
11000000 - 8.8"/10.25" screen →
11100000 - 10.25" screen (G series)→
11100000
⚠️ Wrong DIP = no video output.
4. CAN / Harness Connections
- Ensure CAN wires are correctly paired on the power harness.
- Wrong assignment prevents switching between OEM and CarPlay/Android Auto.
5. Input Source Switching
- NBT → Hold MENU button for 3 seconds.
