Troubleshooting Sound Issues – BMW Retrofit Interface (CCC, CIC, NBT & EVO)

If you have no sound or poor audio from your retrofit kit, follow these checks before contacting support.


1. Check Audio Source Selection

  • If CarPlay/Android Auto shows but no sound is heard, check the BMW’s audio source:
    • CCC systems → must be set to AUX.
    • CIC, NBT, EVO systems → set to AUX if your car does not support Bluetooth audio streaming.
    • If your BMW has Bluetooth audio streaming → ensure Phones Bluetooth (BMWo) is selected in iDrive.

⚠️ It is not possible to have BMW Radio/DAB playing at the same time as CarPlay or Android Auto audio. You must switch the audio source to AUX or Bluetooth for sound to work.


2. Check Bluetooth / AUX Setup

  • On your phone, confirm it is paired for calls + audio (BMWo).
  • If using AUX, ensure AUX is selected in iDrive and the volume is up.
  • Test by playing music directly from your phone via AUX or Bluetooth to confirm audio works.

3. Check Fibre Optic & Audio Cables

  • Cars with a MOST fibre optic system require the fibre loop to be connected correctly through the retrofit harness.
  • Loose, damaged, or kinked fibre optic cables will result in no sound at all.
  • Ensure fibre cables are fully clicked in.

4. Check DIP Switches / Settings

  • DIP switches must match your system type (CCC, CIC, NBT, EVO).
  • Wrong switch settings may cause no sound or distortion.
  • Refer to your installation manual for the correct configuration.

5. Reset the System

  • Turn off ignition, lock the car, and wait 5 minutes.
  • Restart and re-test.
  • If still no sound, hold the MMI box reset button for 10 seconds.

6. Common Sound Issues

  • CarPlay shows but no sound → BMW audio source still set to Radio/DAB. Switch to AUX or Phones Bluetooth.
  • Music works but calls silent → Phone not paired for both calls + audio.
  • Distorted/weak sound → AUX volume low or wrong input selected.
  • No sound at all → Check fibre optic loop, AUX setup, and DIP switches.
