Fix Screen Size, Resolution or Flickering Issues (Display Troubleshooting)

🎯 What This Guide Fixes

✔ OEM iDrive showing in a small box instead of full-screen
✔ Screen zoomed in / stretched / cropped
✔ Flickering horizontal lines
✔ Black bar on right side of screen (common on 6.5" cars)
✔ Tapping screen doesn’t switch back properly
✔ Wrong resolution selected after install

1️⃣ Root Cause

This issue happens when the wrong screen type / resolution is selected inside the settings.
✅ Takes 10 seconds to fix
✅ No tools or rewiring needed
Do NOT factory reset — it won’t fix it

2️⃣ How To Fix (Step-By-Step)

  1. Switch to the new interface (not BMW iDrive) → Hold MENU for 3 seconds
  2. Go to:

Settings → Car Setting → Original Car’s Screen Resolution

  1. Select the correct resolution for your vehicle (see table below)
  2. Hold MENU again for 3 seconds to force reload
  3. Display should now refresh correctly

3️⃣ Which Resolution To Choose

Original BMW Screen Size BMW System Type Choose This Option:
6.5" small screen CIC / NBT 800 × 480
8.8" or 10.25" widescreen NBT / EVO 1280 × 480 or 1920 × 720 (depends on unit)
Cars showing “zoomed view” with black bar 6.5" screen 800 × 480 + enable Force OEM Full Screen

✅ If you’re unsure which type you had originally, look at your factory screen shape — not the new one.

4️⃣ Full-Screen OEM Mode (Optional)

Some cars (especially 6.5" models) show OEM iDrive only on the left side.
To stretch OEM across the full screen:

Settings → Car Setting → Force OEM System Full Screen → ON

⚠ If your OEM graphics appear stretched or blurry after this, turn it back OFF — it’s a preference feature.

5️⃣ If Screen Flickers / Rolls / Glitches

Symptom Fix
Flickering lines Wrong resolution — try another option
Rolling / unstable image LVDS cable loose or wrong port
Black until switching modes Toggle resolution + reboot
iDrive looks perfect but new UI is distorted DIP switch settings wrong (see DIP article)

📌 LVDS cable MUST go into the correct IN/OUT port — swapping them causes black screen or flicker.
