Display Problems – Volkswagen Retrofit

For Volkswagen Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto Interfaces
SKU: BA-VW-MMI1

Symptoms

  • Black screen
  • Fuzzy lines
  • Distorted or zoomed-in image

Step 1: Check Toggle Switches

  • Important: Always disconnect the CAN Power Cable from the MMI box before changing toggle switch positions.
  • If switches were changed while power was connected, the display will not work.

Toggle switch positions (0 = Up, 1 = Down):

Vehicle / Screen Type Switch Combination
VW 5.8" MIB 110011
VW 7" MIB 111010
VW 8" MIB 110110
Audi S3/A3 (2017–2018, 7") MIB 111000

Additional Switches:

  • Toggle 7: Down if no parking sensors fitted.
  • Toggle 8: Down if using an external microphone.

Procedure:

  1. Disconnect CAN Power Cable for at least 10 seconds.
  2. Adjust toggles to match your vehicle.
  3. Reconnect CAN Power Cable and retest.

Step 2: Check LVDS & Wiring Connections

⚠️ Do not connect directly to the factory screen or unplug its cables. This will cause problems.
All connections must be made at the head unit (glovebox) using the LVDS splitter.

  1. Disconnect the LVDS cable from the head unit (normally pink/grey).
  2. Plug this cable into the female port of the LVDS splitter.
  3. Plug the splitter’s male end into the head unit.
  4. Plug the blue LVDS lead from the splitter into the MMI box.
  5. Confirm CAN Power Cable is fully seated in both the MMI box and quadlock.
  6. Ensure all wires (including climate control panel) are reconnected if “dry fitting”.

Step 3: Basic Function Tests

  • Check if “EW-CarPlayxxxxx” appears in Bluetooth on your phone.
  • Plug phone into supplied USB → confirm it charges.
