⚠️ Note: This guide applies specifically to the Volkswagen CarPlay & Android Auto Retrofit Interface (SKU: BA-VW-MMI1).
Common Sound Problems & Fixes
1. No Sound but CarPlay/Android Auto is Running
- Check whether your VW supports OEM Bluetooth Audio Streaming.
- If Yes → configure kit to use OEM Bluetooth (see CarPlay/Android Auto setup guide).
- If No → set head unit to AUX/AMI.
2. AUX / AMI Output Not Working
- Enter VW infotainment → select AUX/AMI input as the source.
- Confirm the AUX cable from the retrofit harness is connected securely.
- Ensure AUX volume is not muted (recommended level: 10).
- If your vehicle does not have a physical AUX port:
- You must use an AUX-to-AMI adapter.
- Recommended adapter: Audi / VW AMI to AUX Adapter – Bavarian Automotive.
- After installing the adapter, go to Media → AMI/AUX in the VW infotainment system.
3. OEM Bluetooth Mode (Optional)
- Phone must connect to both Bluetooths:
- MMI Box Bluetooth → required to start CarPlay/Android Auto.
- OEM VW Bluetooth → routes audio through VW system.
- ⚠️ Limitation: Screen mirroring and some wireless features will not work in this mode.
4. Microphone & Call Issues
- If callers hear echo → go to Setup → AEC Auto and run echo cancellation.
- Check microphone connection is secure and routed away from vents/speakers.
5. Radio vs CarPlay
- It is not possible to play VW Radio/DAB and CarPlay/Android Auto audio at the same time.
- Select either Radio or CarPlay/Android Auto for sound output.
Troubleshooting Checklist
- Confirm audio output setting (OEM Bluetooth vs AUX/AMI).
- Check AUX cable and port connection (use AMI adapter if no AUX port).
- Reboot retrofit box and phone if sound does not switch correctly.
